The Family Center offers a unique blend of respite and recreational services to families who have a child who is developmentally disabled.

This program offers parents some necessary respite during school vacations and over the summer for children who are OPWDD eligible, are accessing services through Family Support Services, and have behavior challenges.

The Vacation Respite and Recreation Program is committed to the following results:

  • Respite opportunities for families
  • Opportunities for children with disabilities with behavior challenges to practice social skills needed to participate in community, family and school settings
  • Decreased isolation of children with disabilities with behavior challenges

The Family Center Vacation Respite & Recreation Program will consist of five (5) sessions per calendar year during school vacations and over the summer.

The program is in operation from 10 AM to 2 PM. All sessions will be scheduled on weekdays during the school breaks. A calendar of dates will be available by the 1st of the year. Each session of the vacation program will be enrolled separately and independently so families can choose all 5 or fewer, as per their needs.

Program costs are covered by a grant for Nassau and Suffolk County residents. Therefore, children with a developmental disability are eligible at no cost to families. Families will complete applications and select the dates that they are interested in attending.
